ikea bookcase fix up

I had an Expedit bookcase from ikea that didn’t really fit anywhere in the flat so we put it in the hallway on the side instead. Perfect storage for shoes. But I thought it looked a bit weird without any legs.

The other day when I was out for a run I ran past a container outside a house that was being renovated and found two big building blocks or stones or whatever you call them. They look like this: building block

Very heavy to get home!

And then I placed them under the ikea bookcase like legs:

This also meant that I could push the bookcase closer to the wall and get more space in the hallway.

how to hide DVDs and ugly books

I had a couple of books with extremely bright and ugly covers and a shelf with loads of DVDs that wasn’t very pretty either.

DVD shelf...

So I turned the books around so you could only see the paper side of it and then mixed the books with some black ones. The result is beige and black prettiness.

I then took two empty canvases that I didn’t know where to store anyway and covered the DVD shelf and added some frames. It’s not difficult to just take this away to chose a film when needed.

50s dining table

We’ve now finally bought a dining table for the flat! I found it on ebay and it’s exactly like I wanted; a mid century  Scandinavian design teak table. Seats 4 and 8 if extended. It’s going to be delivered on Saturday! These are the pictures from ebay.

I think I’ll change the cover on the chairs to something else, shouldn’t be too difficult.

No more eating on a blanket on the floor and we can finally invite people over for dinners!

vintage treasures from paris

I went to Paris last weekend with two friends and it was just wonderful. The weather was amazing and we walked around in the sun, sat down at cafés and bars every now and then and just relaxed.

On Sunday we went to a flea market close to Porte de Vanves. I’ve never been there before, only to Porte de Clignancourt, but the market in Porte de Vanves is much smaller so that you can actually manage to find your way through it and it has lots of smaller vintage things for the home. They say it’s not as expensive as Clignancourt and I guess it wasn’t but it doesn’t mean it was cheap either. Although I did find some things to a really good price too. These are my vintage treasures from le marchĂ© aux puces de Vanves that I’ve now placed in my home…
